The Law Offices of Taylor, Leong & Chee Attorneys

Carroll S. Taylor earned his Bachelor of Arts in history from Yale University, and his Juris Doctorate from the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley. Shortly after, he was admitted to practice law in California and Hawaii in 1969.

In the years since, Mr. Taylor has focused his practice on estate planning, probate, and trust and estate litigation matters. He has earned numerous accolades from the legal community for his work in these areas.

National directory of attorneys Martindale-Hubbell has awarded him its prestigious AV Preeminent rating, signifying that his peers rank him at the highest levels of professionalism and ethical standards.

Since 1981, Mr. Taylor has been a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), a national organization of approximately 2,600 of the nation's top trust and estate attorneys who have demonstrated significant contributions to the field of trust and estate law. Membership in ACTEC is by nomination only, and nominees undergo a careful review by both state and national membership selection committees prior to consideration by the Regents of the College. Since 1993, he has been listed in Best Lawyers in the field of Trusts and Estates.

Work Outside the Firm

Mr. Taylor is a former Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Hawaii William S. Richardson School of Law, and a former reporter for the Hawaii Probate Code Revision Project. At various points throughout his career, he has been called upon to serve as an expert witness in trust and estate matters by the Attorney General of the State of Hawaii and a number of small and large law firms.

Outside of his practice, Mr. Taylor supports Hawaii Public Radio by regularly going on-air during its semi-annual fund drives as the creator of the Attorney Compliment Challenge, a popular program whereby a caller who both contributes money to HPR and compliments an attorney has the contribution matched both by a donation from one of a number of participating law firms, including Taylor, Leong & Chee, and by the compliment attorney, essentially tripling the caller's donation.

In Memoriam - Gregory W. K. Chee (1956-2006)

Mr. Chee earned his undergraduate degree in history and political science from the University of the Pacific, and was a classmate of Mr. Leong's at the University of Hawaii William S. Richardson School of Law, receiving his Juris Doctorate in 1981. During his time in law school, he worked as a staff member of the University of Hawaii Law Review.

After completing his schooling, he practiced in the areas of estate planning and elder law, serving as a Law Clerk for U.S. District Court Judges Walter M. Heen and Samuel P. King. When Judge Heen was named to the State Intermediate Court of Appeals, Mr. Chee followed as his Law Clerk.

In 1984, Mr. Chee followed Mr. Leong in joining what was then The Law Offices of Carroll S. Taylor. Sadly, Mr. Chee passed away suddenly in 2006. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl, and his two daughters, Alyssa "Makamae" and Amanda "Pualei", his mother, brother and sister.
